The Heart of Our Heritage

At Coal Train Creamery, we believe that the best ice cream starts with our heritage. Our story is woven into the Appalachian landscape, where generations of families have nurtured the very ingredients that define our artisanal flavors. From the first morning dew on the mountains to the final swirl in our churn, we honor the legacy of local ingredients and the hard work of the people who have labored so long to make our heritage possible.

What We Sell

Experience the rich flavors of the Appalachian region in every scoop. From heritage dairy to seasonal specialties, we bring the mountains to your table, adding in some tropical flavors along the way, because we love the islands too!

Don't miss out on our traditional West Virginia hot dogs and pepperoni rolls.  They're always great with a milkshake!

Classic Flavors

Time-honored favorites made with dairy sourced within the Appalachians and traditional recipes.

Nine ever changing flavors offered daily with one "no sugar added" option and one dairy free option.

We also have a variety of flavors filled in pint containers to take home and enjoy...or eat in your car while sitting in an empty parking lot listening to a true crime podcast.  No judgment.

Seasonal Specialties

Limitless flavors that change with the harvest, from mountain berries to autumn spices and maybe even a spring molly-moocher. That's a morel mushroom for those that don't speak the language.

Sunday sundae

Stop by on Sunday for a special sundae to wrap up the weekend.  Open 1 - 8 p.m.

We kind of invented it...

A little history lesson...The chili and slaw hot dog originated in West Virginia in the early 1920s.  The dish became a staple during the Great Depression due to the affordability of hot dog franks and cabbage.
Not only can West Virginians take credit for the chili and slaw hot dog, but our Italian immigrant coal miners, during the same era, brought us the famous pepperoni roll because they needed a convenient, filling, grab & go lunch that could be kept in a lunch pail to take down into the underground coal mine.  Due to its deep roots in West Virginia's labor history and Italian heritage, it continues to be a celebrated treat and West Virginia's official state food.
